Day 14 Run It Fast Race Across the USA Map

Day 14: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Rev Run’s Record Setting Win

Rev Run blistered 2,907 miles over the course of 13 days, 20 hours, 17 minutes to win Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA. The great Lisa Devona ran her team onto the Santa Monica Pier in California in reaching the Pacific Ocean. The entire team was waiting and holding a ‘2,907 Miles – Sub-14 Days’ banner that Lisa tore through. It was fitting considering her phenomenal 500-mile performance over the past two weeks.

The powerhouse led by team captain David Pharr had daily contributions from every runner. A team of superstars that lifted up and inspired each other from #1 o- # 11 on their daily scorecard.

We all remember where we were when Michael Jordan hit ‘The Shot,’ and we all will always remember the hour and minute that this team finished the most perfect race in U.S.A. running history.

On a day of national upheaval, Rev Run finished on the Santa Monica Pier less than 45 minutes before the 6pm curfew city officials had put in place just a hour before.

The 11-person team averaged 207.64 miles per day, a daily average of 18.88 miles/per runner.

It took a Herculean effort to finish before the weekend cascaded as the team needed 536.70 miles coming into the weekend to make it happen. True to their mutant ethos they ran 292.46 miles yesterday (average of 26.79/runner), to leave a measly chip shot of 244.24 miles from the Mojave Desert to finish today. And they did it, rather easily, with almost four hours to spare.

They were led on the final day by Ed ‘the Jester Ettinghausen’s 100K mic drop, and Lisa’s 50-mile exclamation point giving her 500.78 miles for the race. And in what would have easily led many other teams today, Rev had big miles from Sherry Meador’s 34.11, Karl Studtmann’s 32.19, and Emily Ryan’s 32.08.

Rev Run finished today with our second place team 700 miles behind in Arizona.

“I think the Suzys were a perfect storm of talent and opportunity. If you were the have that same event every year, I think that is the kind of record that would stand for a very long time.

Result of random selection, though I doubt there could have been a much stronger team if chosen on purpose. It was fun to watch. Like one of those rare sports team that is just better than everyone else. You just have to sit back and applaud.” – Karl Studtmann (May 3, 2020)

Twenty-eight days later, Rev Run, including Karl, randomly drawn together for The Return Voyage, beat the Suzy Michelson Team’s time of 14 days, 21 hours, 10 min, from the inaugural Run It Fast’ Race Across the USA, by a full day and 53 minutes – with four less runners on our teams for the return trip. It would seem highly improbable now that Rev’s time of 13 days, 20 hours, 17 min will ever be challenged but only time will tell.

Run It Fast Race Across the USA Map Day 8

Day 8: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Memorial Day

Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA paused today to remember those that have fallen serving our country and thank everyone that has to protect our land and freedoms.

On the road today, the Harlem Globetrotters were up to their usual tricks and domination of their opponents. They ended the day with 193.61 miles which is about their magic spot during the workweek.

In the Washington Generals division, the race saw The Metcalvary continue to create separation from the other ten teams. Currently the Rev’s are on another planet, then there is The Metcalvary creating it’s own modular radius around them.

The biggest bounce up today came from Kicking Glass that finished 3rd on the day with 138.48 miles, a 40-mile jump from yesterday.

[aside: Tuck n’ Stroll’s Doug Barnette played several years on the Washington Generals, never once beating the Globetrotters. As a member of the Generals, they were something like 0-345.]

The Top 5 Teams on Day 8

  1. Rev Run – 193.61
  2. The Metcalvary – 148.64
  3. Kicking Glass – 138.48
  4. Tuck n’ Stroll – 137.44
  5. Mojo Rising – 131.82

New York City to Santa Monica Pier Distance: 2,907.00 Miles

Today on Memorial Day we had two veterans that really above and beyond their normal mileage to remember those who have fallen in combat for our freedom. Two truly amazing performances today.

J.d. Barnette (Tuck n’ Stroll) and David Essary (Alfa’s Omega’s, photographed above) are the Race Across the USA’s Peak Performers of the day with 31.20 and 32.20 miles, respectively. A big thank you to both of these guys along with all the other men and women in our race who have served or are serving to protect us.

Team Captain David Pharr got in on the big-mile action with 26.55 miles. Dr. Karl Studtmann went for a marathon distance with 26.31 miles. THE METCALVARY – Day 8: 148.64 Miles (2nd) – 2nd overall

Jen Metcalf has captained The Mets into a strong grip of 2nd place overall. They likely won’t catch Rev Run, but she has the team in a spot where no team behind them will likely catch them, as well.

Not a massive day from anyone, but really solid days from so many that gave them the 2nd most miles on the day. Elissa Higgins, a rising star, led the team with 22.08 miles. She was followed by Erik Pascual with 21.48, and Randy ‘Mustaine’ Broadway has been rock (n’ roll) solid every day.

The team is in Little Rock, Arkansas.

MET’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Elissa Higgins – 22.08 miles
  2. Erik Pascual – 21.48 miles
  3. Randy Broadway – 21.16 miles

TUCK N’ STROLL – Day 8: 137.44 Miles (4th) – 3rd overall

X always marks the spot on The Tucks. Ximena Kriete had 31.55 miles on Monday, but as mentioned above, J.d. Barnette was spectacular with his 31.20 miles.

They moved up a spot in the standings since yesterday.

TNS’s Top Performers of the Day.

  1. Ximena Kriete – 31.55 miles

  3. Rene Fosdal-Griffin – 17.68 miles

CROWE BARS – Day 8: 116.30 Miles (8th) – 4th overall

A relaxing day of BBQ, yard-darts, and cake-pops at the Crowe Bars n’ Grill. Steve Troxel, taking a step back from his 50K-a-day, still knocked down a double-dime (20.37 miles). Amy Hazlewood was splendid again with 18.32 miles and Cathy Downes rebounded from her big Saturday to have 18.29 today.

The team is in Bartlett, Tennessee which might explain why their miles were down and spirits were high. Fleet Feet – Jackson owner Danny Crossett was reportedly seen with the team earlier and likely the leader in their Memorial Day celebration.

CB’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Steve Troxel – 20.37 miles
  2. Amy Hazlewood – 18.32 miles
  3. Cathy Downes – 18.29 miles

GRAPES OF RATH – Day 8: 122.62 Miles (6th) – 5th overall

GOR tore down I-40 today between Jackson and Memphis. With the temps up, and tired legs-a-dragging, team captain Scott Kufferath decided to take the team to Adventure River to enjoy the water slides and wave pool. It seemed to work as the team had a bit more lift in their legs late in the afternoon when they got back to putting miles on the road.

They were led in miles today by Chris Clemens with 33.o0. Lisamarie Griffin ran 23.02 miles and Elva Matamoros ran 17.88.

GOR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Chris Clemens – 33.00 miles
  2. Lisamarie Griffin – 23.02 miles
  3. Elva Matamoros – 17.88 miles

MOJO RISING- Day 8: 131.82 Miles (5th) – 6th overall

A bit of a rebound today for Mojo Rising. After a rough weekend, the team finished 5th on the day with 131.82 miles and moved up a spot in the standings. They were led by Audrey Davis with 24.08 miles. JR Reynolds continued his shirtless work with another strong day of 23.84 miles. Lindsay Phenix upped her mileage for the 8th consecutive day to 23.24 miles.

The team is currently near Mason, Tennessee. They enjoyed dinner at the original Gus’s World Famous Chicken…sweet tea, fried pickles, chicken, and chess pie. Does it get any better?

MR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Audrey Davis – 24.08 miles
  2. JR Reynolds – 23.84 miles
  3. Lindsay Phenix – 23.24 miles

TRIP 2 MY LOU – Day 8: 104.51 Miles (10th) – 7th overall

A drop in miles for the Lou’s and down two spots in the standings, but not really a huge deal as most everyone was down a bit today. They are in 7th overall but less than a mile behind Mojo.

They were led by team captain Marylou Corino’s 27.20 miles. Russ Metteer continued his 3-day hot streak with 23.03 miles. Christy Brewer, currently passing through her hometown of Memphis, contributed a total of 13.10 miles for Lou.

LOU’S Top Performers of the Day

  2. Russ Metteer – 23.03 miles

ALFA’S OMEGAS – Day 8: 118.16 Miles (7th) – 8th overall

David ‘Five-O’ Essary really dug deep all day to compile 32.30 miles for the Alfa’s. He was magnificent, and the Alfa’s really needed those miles to save the day. Essary got to see his wife and children as the race came down I-40 close to his homestead in Lexington.

The Alfa’s miles were down a good bit from yesterday, but they still placed higher on the day than they are overall which is good.

Team captain Alfa Severino added 20.28 miles. Allison Barcelona landed on 14.93 for the day.

AO’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. David Essary – 32.30 miles
  2. Alfa Severino – 20.28 miles

The team is currently in Bucksnort, Tennessee.

Cathy Downs RIF Race Across the USA Peak Performer of the Day

Day 17: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Getting Downes to It

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ had two themes on Day 17. The first being the strong day the Jeffrey Price Team put down with 183.82 miles to bring them just a 100 miles from reaching New York City tomorrow. The other one being the massive day that Cathy Downes threw down for the Hope Shull Team with 62.00 monster miles in one big bite. It led her team to a second place finish on the day. The Charlie Taylor Team battled through some injuries and grinded for 144.80 miles.

Day 17 Mileage Results of the Race Across the USA

  • Jeffrey Price Team – 183.82 miles (12.25 mi/runner)
  • Charlie Taylor Team – 144.80 miles (9.65 mi/runner)
  • Hope Shull Team – 152.53 miles (10.17 mi/runner)

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Jeffrey Price Team: Badwater vet Karla Kent drove this team hard today putting down 25.17 miles and was one of four from the team to put down 20+ miles. She was joined by Tom Orr with 21.36 miles, Alfa Severino (21.30), and Heather ‘Double-Dime’ McComb (20.20). Karl Studtmann also chipped in with a solid 18.11 miles.

The team finished with 183.82 miles, the most of any team on the day.

The Jeffs are just 100 miles away from celebrating a second place finish in New York City. The team is spending the night in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Well, we’re living here in Allentown
And they’re closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem, they’re killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line
Well, our fathers fought the Second World War
Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers at the USO
Asked them to dance
Danced with them slow
And we’re living here in Allentown
But the restlessness was handed down
And it’s getting very hard to stay
Well, we’re waiting here in Allentown
– Billy Joel

Charlie Taylor Team: The wear-and-tear was very visible on The Chucks today. However, they still had 100% participation. They still encouraged each other. They picked each other up. And they still pieced together 144.80 miles.

Elva Matamoros dodged mountain lions to record 18.48 miles, while Steve Acciarito dug deep to get 15.30 miles. Jen ‘Big Sexy’ Metcalf threw down a perfect 10.0.

The Queen of Pinson Mounds, Marj Mitchell, put down her second biggest mileage day of the race with 15.12 miles. Seth Crowe continued to be the rhythm of this team with 12.16 miles.

The Chucks believe they will get to NYC on Friday night.

The last mile they put down near the cut-off tonight crossed them from Virginia into West Virginia. Jeremy Reed and Jemal Swoboda herded the team into ‘Touch of Texas’ thinking it was a massage parlor with cowgirls. It turned out to be a cowboy bar with cowgirls that danced a lot more like they were from Houston than Dallas (if you know, you know). After Steve was oiled up from his rough day on the ashalt, the team was able to encourage Marj to ride the mechanical, bucking bull. Marj said as she walked up to get on, “I grew up in South Africa in the arms of lions and tigers in my bed. I don’t think this little American bull will do much.” If you haven’t by now, then you will likely see the video footage from a Chucks team member’s phone of exactly how that ride went down. Robin Robbins was vehement as he walked out that he was going to be running tomorrow in his ‘Astro-World’ cowboy hat that one of the dancers tossed his way as he was trying to finish his onion rings and strawberry malt.

I was took in Texas, I did not know her name
Lord, all these southern girls all seem the same
Down below the border in a town in Mexico
I got my job busting broncs in the rodeo
Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning ’til I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Running free with the buffalo
Here I go
– Thin Lizzy

The legs might be tired, but team chemistry is at an all-time high.

Hope Shull Team:  It was the Cathy Downes’ show on Wednesday for The Hopes with her 62.00 miles…or as we Americans like to call it, a ‘Canadian 100.’ Perhaps it was a shout-out to team captain Marylou Corino, who recorded 15.00 of her own miles.

Kit Brazier was fantastic once again with 20.09 miles. Sherry Meador and Ben Herron also put up 10+ spots for the team.

The team is still in Tennessee, and being Mare’s favorite state they might just take a few more days, or a week,  mozing on through the Volunteer State.

Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain’t no place I’d rather be
Baby won’t you carry me back to Tennessee
Drink all day and rock all night
The law come to get you if you don’t walk right
Got a letter this morning, baby all it read
You better head back to Tennessee Jed

Karl Studtmann – RIF Race Across the USA Peak Performer

Day 15: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Suzy Michelson Team 1st to NYC.

The Suzy Michelson Team won Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ when Barry Reece, running the last leg for the team, stepped foot into Battery Park in New York City. His team was all smiles and cheers with the Statute of Liberty in the background behind the team.

The Suzys blazed the entire route from Santa Monica, California to New York City in 14 days, 21 hours, and 10 minutes.

Team captain Shane Tucker was the ‘Zen-Master’ keeping his high-fueled, mega-mile team of egos in check as they pushed each other hard every day of the race. They completed 160.4 miles today to finish the 2,907 mile journey.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Suzy Michelson Team: The Suzys are living it up in New York City after an amazing run. They got here days and even weeks before the pundits and experts predicted.

The team averaged 193.80 miles a day over the ~15 days. Their biggest day came two days ago when they ran 331.52 miles. Their lowest mileage day was on April 15th when they covered 160.2 miles. The Suzys ran over 200 miles three times.

The other captains sent over their congratulations to Shane Tucker, who went nearly Canadian, almost apologizing for whipping their butts so soundly. Tucker even got out his own beat-down stick putting down 33.16 miles himself on the final day to drive the stake into the hearts of the other teams.

All of the 15 team members made a big contribution to the team. Some were heavy hitters every day, and others, juggling life and jobs, did the miles they could, when they could. A total, joint team effort.

The Suzy Michelson Team (Shane Tucker, captain)

  • Chris Clemens – 393.33

Jeffrey Price Team: Big day for this team in huge part to Karl ‘Doc Hollywood Drive’ Studtmann’s 61.34 mile gallop of a day. His second massive outburst of the race. It brought his total contribution to date for the team to 319.79 miles.

But it woulnd’t be a day in the life for this team without some 20+ mile power from Heather and Tom. Heather McComb racked up 20.31 miles, her 15th consecutive double-dime of the race. Tom Orr, who has discovered the fountain of youth, hit 20.71 miles for the day.

The Jeffs just crossed the Buchanan Swinging Bridge in Buchanan, Virginia. They are 430 miles from the finish and should arrive in NYC on Thursday.

Tiffani Glass Peak Performer of the Day – RIF Race Across the USA

Day 10: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Rise of the Chucks

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ Day 10 has concluded and the Charlie Taylor Team, for the first time, had the most miles for a day. They finished the day with 176.17 miles, their second highest single-day tally of the race. Finishing behind them was the Suzy Michelson Team with 163.65 miles. Ten miles behind the SMT was the Jeffrey Price Team. The Hope Shull Team finished with 107.75 miles.

The Chucks have performed consistent throughout the race, and they have the past four days turned up the intensity centered around the two-day outburst from Jeremy Reed.

  • Suzy Michelson Team – 163.65 miles (10.91 mi/runner)

Suzy Michelson Team: More of the same from the front-leading Suzys. Chris Clemens with a marathon of work today, assisted by David Nichols going for 21.3 miles and Barry Reece with 19.3 miles. Alex Barrientos (17.61) and Kimberly Atkins (15.56) also had very strong contributions.

They currently are in Brownsville, Tennessee. And I don’t even know how to word this… But in one of the most flagrant WWE moves of all-time, Anthony Ohrey picked the lock to Tom Orr and Donna Burns‘ house and the team bum-rushed in like Andrew Jackson’s Tennesseans did into the White House on the night of Jackson’s inauguration when they destroyed all the carpets and drapes with food and drink. The SMT is sleeping in Tom’s house for the night and Chris Clemens is passed out, greased up with Ben-Gay in Tom’s own bed. Oh the humanity and brashness of this team. Tom and Donna are still back in Arkansas with the Jeffrey Price Team.

Jeffrey Price Team: Tom Orr, once again, was running today like he had a 6th sense that something was awry he needed to get to. He just didn’t know exactly what, yet. Oh, that day is coming! Tom put down 23.35 miles. He has been strong every day of the competition. Heather ‘Double-Dime’ McComb…wait for it…dropped another 20 miles for the 10th consecutive day. Karl Studtmann added 20.16 with solid performances from Alfa Severino and Lance Forest as well.

It should be noted that team captain, Melissa Price, has notched double digit miles for all ten days and sets a great example for her team day in and day out. A true inspiration.

The Jeffs finished with the 3rd most miles of the day. They are in good shape and charging up to make another strong weekend push. They are currently in Blackwell, Arkansas.

Charlie Taylor Team: What a surge this team has had the past five days, and it’s been a powder keg the past two days in major part to Jeremy Reed, who followed yesterday’s 42.03 miles, with 30.20 miles today. This galvanized team used that to help put down the most miles for the day. It’s the first time during the race they’ve done this. Another big reason they were able to do this today was that they, once again, got contributions from every team member.

Jeremy had some big-gun help from Tiffani Glass with 25.10 miles. It’s her 4th 20+ mile day of the race and her highest single day output. She’s been a consistent and big contributor to the Chucks every day.

Then it was the three amigos of Seth Crowe (21.01), Elva Matamoros (19.05), and Steve Acciarito (17.80) helping the team rise to the top today..

The Chucks are no longer looking in their rear-view mirror, as they are seem intent on pushing the pedal down to try to find anyone else on the road ahead. They currently are pinning in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and will reach Arkansas shortly.

Hope Shull Team: Double-Trouble Marylou Corino (25.00 mi) and Kit Brazier (22.41 mi) provided most of the fuel for the Hopes on Day 10. They hit a decent groove with 107.75 miles. Other contributors included Sherry Meador (13.25 mi), Cathy Downs (10.05 mi), and Ben Herron (9.49 mi).

Tomorrow could be a low-mileage day as they are due to run by (and likely into, up, down, and all around) the Water-Zoo Indoor Water Park in Clinton, Oklahoma. Photos, please!!!

Steve Acciarito Day 8 Peak Performer Run It Fast Race Across the USA

Day 8: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Lt. Dan Taylor

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ entered week two with all four teams pushing their limits just as they have for eight days now. Week 2 started, like week 1, did with the Suzy Michelson Team putting down a very strong day, almost an exact replica of their day 1. A week ago they started the race with 188.97 miles and today landed on 188.23. That’s impressive! Our middle two teams, Jeffrey Price Team and Charlie Taylor Team, had nearly identical performances today. JPT maintains a healthy lead over 3rd and a good ways behind the SMT for first. The Hope Shull Team fell back asleep today failing to break 100 mi/day with just 96.90

Day 8 Mileage Results of the Race Across the USA

  • Suzy Michelson Team – 188.23 miles (12.55 mi/runner)
  • Jeffrey Price Team – 147.82 miles (9.85 mi/runner)
  • Charlie Taylor Team – 145.32 miles (9.69 mi/runner)
  • Hope Shull Team – 96.90 miles (6.46 mi/runner)

RIF’s Race Across the USA Overall Standings

  1. Suzy Michelson Team – 1,520.36 miles (190.05/day, 52.3% completed)
  2. Jeffrey Price Team – 1,329.30  miles (166.16 mi/day, 45.7% completed)
  3. Charlie Taylor Team – 1,157.99 miles (144.75 mi/day, 39.8% completed)
  4. Hope Shull Team – 1,011.23 miles (126.40 mi/day, 34.8% completed)

The four teams are nearly residing in four separate states. The Suzy Michelson Team, currently in 1st place, is literally a few hundred feet from crossing into Arkansas. They likely would have if the Cherokee Casino had not been directly on their route. Anthony Ohrey and Leslie Studtmann talked team captain Shane Tucker into stopping for some Blackjack. Their next runner to take the baton will run them into the Razorback State.

The Jeffrey Price Team is in Yukon, Oklahoma, just short of Oklahoma City, currently in 2nd place. The third place Charlie Taylor Team is currently in McLean, Texas in hope of that ‘American Pie,’ but all they’ve found there is Devil’s Rope Musuem. The Hope Shull Team is still in New Mexico, only two states behind The Suzys, are holed up at the Russell’s Truck Stop. They should finally cross into Texas tomorrow morning.

Suzy Michelson Team: Sound n’ Pound, big talking and even bigger miles, returned today with strong, long miles from so many on the Suzys. The team pounded the asphalt non-stop today stopping for nothing. They were truly 2 Legit 2 Sh!t.

They were led by Texan Alex Barrientos with 27.50 miles, Chris Clemens 24.51 miles, and David Nichols 21.28 miles. Leslie Studtmann had 18.27 miles (57.56 over the last 3 days). Barry Reece was strong once again with 17.02 miles and Kimberly Atkins with 15.02 miles.

SMT will step foot into Arkansas in the morning. It will be their 6th state the team has reached in 9 days.

Jeffrey Price Team: After winning their first day yesterday with the most miles, the JPT took a bit of a step back today with four members taking the day off after a smashing weekend. However they still wound up with 147.82 miles that was good enough for the second most miles of the day. JPT was fueled once again by their tri-cycle of excellence from Karl Studtmann, Heather McComb, and Tom Orr. Karl had the second most miles of any runner on Monday with 30.49 miles, giving him 108.22 miles over the last three days. Heather completed her 8th consecutive day of 20+ miles with 20.33. Orr added 16.1. Sofie Romero had her biggest day so far with 18.58 miles.

Steve, over the course of five segments, pumped out the most miles of any runner today with 32.78 miles. Steve is battling bad knees, a bum foot, yet keeps trying and doing all he can for the Chucks. Tiffani Glass eclipsed her third 20+ mile performance of the race. Seth Crowe contributed 14.12 miles along with Jeremy Reed (12.39 miles).

Ben Herron Race Across the USA Peak Performer

Day 7: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Ben Hur-on

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ has moved into it’s seventh day. No one on any of these teams rested though, even after yesterday’s record setting day by all four teams.

The weekend was won by the Jeffrey Price Team. For the second day in a row they made up ground on the first place Suzy Michelson Team. The Jeffs compiled 461.61 miles over the two days with 190.95 coming today after their race high of 270.66 miles on Saturday. With this strong push they’ve gained 24 miles on The Suzys.

The Suzy’s still hold a comfortable overall lead of 150.65 miles. However, after smashing the first five days with the most daily miles every day, they’ve been beaten the last two days, and today two teams finished with more miles than they did. The resurgent Hope Shull Team tallied 178.74 miles today just edging the Suzys. The Suzys ended up with 175.03.

The Charlie Taylor Team had what they thought was a strong day, with 157.03, until they heard what the other three teams recorded for the day. They had the fourth most miles for the day, but they remain a strong hold of third place over the fourth place team.

Day 7 Mileage Results of the Race Across the USA

  • Suzy Michelson Team – 175.03 miles (11.67 mi/runner)
  • Jeffrey Price Team – 190.95 miles (12.73 mi/runner)
  • Charlie Taylor Team – 157.03 miles (10.47 mi/runner)
  • Hope Shull Team – 178.74 miles (11.92 mi/runner)

RIF’s Race Across the USA Overall Standings

  1. Suzy Michelson Team – 1,332.13 miles (192.85/day, 45.8% completed)
  2. Jeffrey Price Team – 1,181.48  miles (165.09 mi/day, 40.6% completed)
  3. Charlie Taylor Team – 1,012.67 miles (142.61 mi/day, 34.8% completed)
  4. Hope Shull Team – 914.33 miles (122.6 mi/day, 31.5% completed)

The four teams currently are split into three states. The Suzy Michelson Team, currently in 1st place, is already in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Jeffrey Price Team is in Shamrock, Texas and getting very close to the ‘Sooner State.’ Our third and fourth place teams, the Charlie Taylor Team and the Hope Shull Team, are still in New Mexico with the Chucks practically nestled up on the barbed wire of the Texas border.

Suzy Michelson Team: Any true criticism of this team would be nitpicking. They dominated this week with 1,332.13 miles over seven days. They have a 150 mile lead, and they have heavy hitters that would make the 1932 New York Yankees envious.

Today they had the third most miles with 175.03 but were just 15 miles off the top team of the day. They were led once again by the ‘Tullahoma Tornado’ Chris Clemens with 24.1 miles. He’s had a remarkable 172.86 miles since the start of the race a week ago, the most of any runner on any team. His main support today came from JR Reynolds with 20.41 miles, his third 20 mile day of the week.

Other strong efforts for the race leaders today came from Barry Reece (17.01 mi), Leslie Studtmann (15.25), and Kimberly Atkins (15.14).

Violeta Heisler, who has been burning the candle at both ends while working herself back into shape from an injury, rocked out with 29.09 miles for the weekend. So many stories like Violeta’s have uplifted and inspired so many people this week.

Jeffrey Price Team: The Jeffs shoot 20-mile bombs out of a cannon day in and day out. Heather McComb finished her week of 20+’s with 21.04 miles. She had an astounding 148.08 miles this week. She has set the early tone, day in and day out. Tom ‘Stairway’ Orr took a step down today, but he still knocked out 20.37 miles. He finished the week with 141.7 miles, the biggest mileage week of his life. Heather and Tom have provided a consistent base every day that the team built on this weekend that led this team to the most miles of the weekend.

Karl Studtmann had a cool 20.53 miles after his 57.2 megatron bomb yesterday that reset the narrative of the race between the Jeffs and Suzys. Alfa Severino also contributed 20.01 miles.

Team captain Melissa Price finished the week with 15.01 miles topping off with the week with 102.96 miles. A epic week from this entire team, top to bottom. Can they keep it up and catch the leaders? Week two will tell a lot.

Charlie Taylor Team: Today the CTT team got a major performance from Elva Matamoros with 32.02 miles. Those big miles gave her 90.53 miles for the week. Her miles were a major boost to the Chucks today after many members of this team were sore and hobbled today. The team also got help from Seth Crowe  with 29.25 miles. Seth’s 131.1 miles easily made him the team’s MVP of the Week. Team captain Joshua Holmes rounded out his week with 21.7 miles.

The Chucks once again had everyone contribute and finished the week a perfect 105 for 105.

He was joined by team captain Marylou Corino who nailed 25.0 miles, her third 25+ mile performance of the week. More help came from Cathy Downes with 20.16 miles which gave her an impressive 51.51 miles for the weekend. Arizona native Lori Robinson was also superb today with 20.22 miles making a strong two day contribution of 38.36 miles. Sherry Meador’s 15.08 miles topped off a nice weekend for her, and Jimmy Girten ran 10.07 miles today. His longest run since the inception of the iPhone.

The Hopes had 380.06 miles over the two day weekend. They have a lot of momentum going into the new week as they try to chase down the Charlie Taylor Team that is in front of them.

Chris Clemens RIF Race Across the USA Day 6

Day 6: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Russell Branded

Run It Fast’sRace Across the USA‘ brought out the freaks on Saturday as Day 6 was one for the record books. It included six runs of 31+ miles, a record day from Karl Studtmann with 57.2 miles, and team highs from every team. It even saw one of the teams finally put down more miles than the Suzy Michelson Team.

There’s a lot to get to, and likely some things will be overlooked by mistake, but let’s get to it…

Suzy Michelson Team: The Suzy’s were epic one again on Saturday. It included nearly matching 35+ mile performances from Chris Clemens (36.52 mi) and David Nichols (35.05 mi). They both have been on fire throughout the race and have both set a tone that the rest of the team has played in harmony to.

Alex Barrientos added a superb supporting total of 31.3 miles. Barry Reece hit 20 again with 20.04. Thomas Fowler a 23.74 giving him 110 miles for the week. Leslie Studtmann racked up 24.04 miles going over 20 miles in a day for the first time in the race. Eleven of fifteen on the team reached double digits today. A thoroughbred of a team that has dominated since leaving the pier in Santa Monica.

The Suzy’s passed Amarillo this morning and currently are positioned in McLean, Texas, a town of just 756 people directly on the ‘Mother Road’ – Route 66. They will be out of Texas as quickly tomorrow as they entered it today. Their eyes are set on Oklahoma City.

They finished the day with 262.39 miles, their biggest day of the race. However, it was only good enough for the second most miles on Saturday.

Suzy Team Data at a Glance
Place: 1st
Day 6 Miles: 262.39 (2nd)
Total Miles: 1,157.10
Top 4 SMT Runners (Entire Race)

  1. Chris Clemens – 148.76
  2. Barry Reece – 123.39
  3. David Nichols – 116.13
  4. Alex Barrientos – 114.08

Jeffrey Price Team: Strong, sturdy, steady, and relentless would sum up this team. They had a record high number of miles today, not just for their team but by any team in the event so far.

They finished the day with 270.66 miles.

As aforementioned in the intro, they were led by the massive performance by Karl Studtmann who laid down the gauntlet with 57.2 miles. Karl did it with multiple 5+ mile runs over the last 24 hours. His performance was buttressed with super strong efforts from team captain, Melissa Price (25.89 mi), Darrell Richardson (24.6 mi), Heather ‘Double Dime’ McComb (20.64 mi), Karla Kent (19.05 mi), and the Orr man…

The entire Jeffrey Price Team is the ‘Race Across the USA’ –  Peak Performer of the Day for putting down the most single team miles in a day with 270.66. Karl’s 57 mile performance along with Melissa’s multiple runs to get close to 26 miles exemplified how deep this team is digging. Melissa has accumulated 87.95 miles in the last six days. The Jeff’s had twelve runners run between 10 – 57 miles each today.

Charlie Taylor Team: The Chuck’s had their best day of the race. Everyone contributed for the 6th consecutive day. They were led by Jen ‘Big Sexy’ Metcalf with her impressive 32.6 miles. It was her biggest output of the race, and one of the biggest by any runner so far. She had support from Tiffani Glass (24.04 mi), Seth Crowe (21.02), and Aimee Shilling (22.55) for the Charlie Taylor Team. It was Aimee’s biggest day of the race.

The most inspirational performance of the entire race came from Renee Holcomb. She pieced together six different runs/walks to tally 17.37 big miles. She had 12.55 miles the previous five days combined. She just kept reloading, giving it all she had, and then would take the baton again to put down a few more miles. Even when she looked totally wiped out, she went out once again for even more.

It was the most miles in a day for the CTT. They will restart in the AM east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. If they can build on today, then they might just make it to Texas before tomorrow night’s check-in.

The team was super excited after today’s outburst of miles. They remain in a distant fourth, but are having a lot of fun and food along the way. They are still in New Mexico, about halfway between Gallup and Albuquerque.
