The Day’s Quick Team-by-Team Recaps

REV RUN- Day 2: 208.83 Miles (1st) – 1st overall

Rev Run was heavy on the accelerator into Day 2 with a whooping 208.83 miles. A massive amount for a 11-person team. Rev had 9 of it’s 11 runners post double digits with 6 of them doing 20+ led by Lisa Devona with 35.04 miles. This team went hard at it all day, refusing their smoke breaks, and working the road like they were being paid double-time. Steve Snyder was huge with 29.26 and Jeremy Reed ran a RNR Marathon’s worth of miles with 24.65. Ironically and appropriately Rev Run is at the Top Dog Boutique in Staunton, Virginia looking at getting some embroidered gaitors and skirts for the team.

RR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Lisa Devona – 35.04 miles
  2. Steve Snyder – 29.26 miles
  3. Jeremy Reed – 24.65 miles

MOJO RISING- Day 2: 167.07 Miles (2nd) – 2nd overall

Mojo was rising in the standings on Day 2 as they leaped into the 2nd overall spot with a massive and historic day from Kit Brazier with her 62.85 miles. She came just a couple miles shy of placing 12th among our teams today (by herself). It was truly a performance that Michael Knight would be proud of. She has 81.86 miles over the first two days of the race.

Used in most episodes, a pair of rocket boosters mounted just behind the front tires that lifted the car, allowing KITT to jump into the air and pass over obstacles in the road. Also, occasionally, Turbo Boost was used to allow KITT to accelerate to incredible speeds in excess of 200 mph (322 km/h). The boosters could fire forward or backward.

Mr. Mojo Rising is positioned in Middleton, Virgina just outside of Nana’s Irish Pub. They also had 100% participation once again.

MR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Kit Brazier – 62.85 miles
  2. Lindsay Phenix – 20.14 miles
  3. Joshua Holmes – 15.30 miles

THE METCALVARY – Day 2: 141.92 Miles (4th) – 3rd overall

The Mets had the fourth most miles on the day and currently sit in 3rd place. Andy Glaze led the team once again with 26.02 miles. He currently leads the entire race for shirtless miles. Randy Broadway was super solid once again with 21.00. Metcalf had everyone participate as well with eight hitting double figures. The team is right on the West Virginia/Virginia border at Piggy’s Club in Bunker Hill.

MET’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Andrew Glaze – 26.02 miles
  2. Randy Broadway – 21.00 miles
  3. Jen Metcalf – 17.28 miles

CROWE BARS – Day 2: 145.13 Miles (3rd) – 4th overall

This team is just solid from top to bottom. Today had strong performances by everyone on the team. They were lead once again by Steve ’50K’ Troxel with 31.00 miles. He was buttressed by Seth Crowe (18.55) and Marj Mitchell (16.17). Double-digits also came from Amy Hazlewood, Troy HarpAdam Holloway, Cathy Downes, and Jimmy Girten.

  2. Seth Crowe – 18.55 miles
  3. Marj Mitchell – 16.17 miles

TRIP 2 MY LOU – Day 2: 136.00 Miles (5th) – 5th overall

Who would Marylou tag team with today to lead the Lou’s? The answer was Russ Metteer who laid down 28.01 miles to go with Mare’s 28.57 miles to help the team put down an impressive 136.00 miles on Day 2. And truth is always stranger than fiction, the team is pinned down for the night in Falling Waters, West Virginia. They are 14 miles behind the Crowe Bars.

The team called it a night early to take a side-trip to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Williamsport, Maryland to cool off with water-slides and down chocolate covered tater tots.

  1. Lisa Van Wolde – 30.86 miles
  2. Tiffani Glass – 15.28 miles

A long day on the hot asphalt shriveled up the Grapes a bit today. They finished 9th on the day with 117.40 miles and currently sit in 7th overall. They were led by Chris ‘the Street Sweeper’ Clemens who knocked out four boroughs during his time on the road today. Tom ‘Mr. McFeely’ Orr punched in with 18.61 and Elva Matamoros was elegant in striding forward for 17.71 additional miles for the Grapes.

GOR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Chris Clemens – 28.24 miles
  2. Tom Orr – 18.61 miles
  3. Elva Matamoros – 17.71 miles

The Omega’s had the biggest improvement from Day 1 to Day 2. They recorded 50 more miles today than yesterday and jumped from 12th to 8th in the standings. Leadership starts at the top and it certainly did for this team today as their captain Alfa Severino ran 26.20 miles. Ryan Malecha, amped up on vinegar water and kale donuts, ran 15.18 miles and Rob Kelly added 12.21.  The Omega’s pumped their runner mile average today up to 8.91 from yesterday’s 5.82. Everyone contributed for the second day in a row.

  1. Alfa Severino – 26.20 miles
  2. Ryan Malecha – 15.18 miles
  3. Rob Kelly – 12.21 miles

TUCK N’ STROLL – Day 2: 114.99 Miles (10th) – 9th overall

Ximena Kriete was the lifeline for the Tucks today. She ran 31.13 miles and has 55.16 miles over the first two days of the race. Team Captain Shane Tucker, winning captain from our initial voyage across country last month, keeps promising big things in the captain’s meetings. If he can motivate his mates to put down some Ximena’s then they will be well on there way. Other top performers for the team today included Henriett Blodgett with 16.00 miles and Rene Fosdal-Griffin with 12.87. The team is docked in Woodstock, Pennsylvania.

TNS’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Ximena Kriete – 31.13 miles
  2. Henriett Blodgett – 16.00 miles
  3. Rene Fosdal-Griffin – 12.87 miles

PEERS ONE- Day 2: 119.68 Miles (8th) – 10th overall

Peers One wasn’t going to be shut down on Day 2 of the race. They were once again led by Thomas Fowler. Owlette galloped strong for 32.42 miles. He got great help from Badwater veteran Karla Kent (20.17) and Badwater rookie-to-be Rich Peers (18.74).  They were 8th place on the day and 10th overall. You could tell at the captain’s meeting earlier that Rich was really feeling positive about the energy the team had today and their plans to carry it into tomorrow.

PR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Thomas Fowler – 32.42 miles
  2. Karla Kent – 20.17 miles
  3. Rich Peers – 18.74 miles

ELI’S P.R. ICE – Day 2: 113.29 Miles (11th) – 11th overall

Easy does it. Eli’s had a nice 26 mile improvement over yesterday. It’s an improvement that team captain Melissa Price believes they can continue to build on. They were led today by Francessca ‘Fast in Translation’ Muccini with 22.06 miles. She was flanked with help from Price with 15.58 miles and Florida native Ed Barnette with 14.67. The team plans to hit the road early in the morning to start trying to make up some ground on Peers One.

ELI’S Top Performers of the Day

  1. Francesca Muccini – 22.06 miles
  2. Melissa Price – 15.58 miles
  3. Ed Barnette – 14.67 miles

THE BEETROOTS – Day 2: 65.20 Miles (12th) – 12th overall

There is no way to sugarcoat Tuesday for The Roots, they simply took a ‘beeting.’ Four runners didn’t even step out of the van to record miles, leaving team captain Lance McDermott frustrated and digging for ways to get to the root of the problem. Wednesday will bring a fresh day for the team and often that is the only positive you rely on. The team was led today by Brenda Cross with 13.31 asymmetrical miles, Leslie Studtmann (11.62), and Amy Costa (10.92). The Beets are 31 miles back of the pack, but all ‘Hope’ is not lost this early in the race.

  2. Leslie Studtmann – 11.62 miles

Day 22: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Hope Arrives to NYC

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ saw it’s last team on the course, the Hope Shull Team, reach the finish earlier this evening. Randy ‘Ran them in to’ Broadway got them over the line, as the pride of Bells, Tennessee ran the last 17.86 miles to bring Hope to New York City.

A massive 3-day surge from The Hopes got them to NYC well ahead of their projected mid-May arrival date. Randy was joined today with big miles from team captain Marylou Corino (25.40 mi), Cathy Downes (22.15), and Kit Brazier (18.32).

The team might have finished well behind the leaders, but they were having such a good time they didn’t want the race to come to an end. However, their tired legs will welcome a few days of rest and relaxation the big city before they have to disperse back home. They finished the race in 21 Days, 19 Hours, 30 Minutes.

RIFRAUSA BIB Charlie Taylor Team 3rd Place Crown

Day 19: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – 3 Doors Down

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ put it’s third team in the ‘New York Groove’ today as the Charlie Taylor Team made it to Battery Park when Jill Williams speed-blitzed walked the last mile to the finish. We now have three teams that have reached the Big Apple. The only three teams in race history ever to do so. More men have been to the moon than that. The team didn’t stop at the finish line though, they kept running to some of the hottest tourist spots on the map (for nearly 40 more miles) before calling it a day and trying to find some oil for Steve Acciarito’s knees. Big congrats to The Chucks.

Day 19 Mileage Results of the Race Across the USA

  • Hope Shull Team – 100.78 miles

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Charlie Taylor Team: The Chucks are the one team that appeared to be paced perfectly for a 4,000 mile race. Which would have been great if this wasn’t a 2,907 mile race. But with that said, the team appeared to be getting stronger as the race went on. It had major performances most days and only a couple of dud days. The team was extremely evenly balanced from top to bottom with a strong median engine that churned relentlessly.

The most impressive part about this team is that every runner contributed very day over the course of 19 days. That’s right, a perfect 285 for 285. 100% participation for the entire event. Truly mind-blowing, as the team, like others had a lot of life and loss happen during the event.

The Chucks had four runners eclipse 300 miles for the race – Seth Crowe (331.43), Joshua Holmes (331.43), Steve Acciarito (323.54), and Jeremy Reed (312.62). Then the team had three runners with strong 200+ mile performances – Elva Matamoros (287.64), Tiffani Glass (281.17), and Jen Metcalf (216.78).

Nearly everyone else on the team had a personal high or record for number of miles over the course of the 19 days including Jill Williams who recorded miles for a career high 19 straight days. Renee Holcomb had her most miles in a month with 88.43.

Robin Robbins, Marj Mitchell, Greta Reed, Jemal Swoboda, Aimee Shilling, and Sharon Carver also made big contributions that helped The Chucks get to NYC a lot faster than they originally estimated it would take them.

Just a 100 miles today for The Hopes. It was a rest day for most of the team as Friday, Monday, and Wednesday’s usually are.

The usual suspects were at the top of the HOPE leader-board for Friday –  Kit Brazier with 15.51 miles, Sherry Meador 15.06 miles, Randy Broadway 15.00 miles, Marylou Corino 13.20 miles, and Rachael Anderson with 10.50 miles.

A member of the Suzy Michelson Team driving back home after three days of partying in NYC came across the Hope RV and stopped to wish them luck the rest of the way. In a secretly recorded video that was sent in to Mission Control (and since destroyed), it caught the team in a huddle chanting the following over and over before their first miles of the day:

“We are good enough, we are smart enough, we are good looking enough, we run enough, we are fun to be with, we might finish the race, and doggone it, people like us.”

We believe you will as well. Keep truckin’!

Day 18: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Black Diamond

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ had it’s second team reach New York City when team captain, Melissa Price, ran the last leg for the Jeffrey Price Team across the finish. It was a moment that brought a smile to everyone’s face. The team finished in 17 days, 15 hours, 28 minutes.

On down the road, the Charlie Taylor Team had a monster day with 195.96 miles, bringing them to the brink of finishing this race as well. They are just a stone throw away from doing that tomorrow. The Hope Shull Team paced well today and made great progress.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Jeffrey Price Team: Everyone that participated in this entire event was all smiles to hear that team captain Melissa Price ran the last few miles to the finish of this race in New York City earlier today. The team is named in memory of Melissa’s husband Jeffrey who passed away from cancer just weeks ago.

Melissa took this task on very soon after Jeffrey’s death and thrived leading and inspiring her team the entire way. Melissa put down big double-digit miles every single day. Such big miles at such a frequency she had never done before. It was obvious she was being shined down on and inspired from above. We are thankful for the Price family.

The Jeffrey Price Team was a force from the start. They kept pushing the team in front of them, and when the team behind them started sneaking up on them at the end, they floored the accelerator and finished the race with an impressive finish in 17 days, 15 hours, and 28 minutes.

Everyone on the team contributed and many runners stood out, but none no more impressive than Heather McComb who recorded 18 consecutive days of 20+ miles for this team. She finished the race with 380.42 miles.

Tom Orr was close on Heather’s heels every day and had the race of his life. He finished with 371.61 miles.

Karl Studtmann had multiple, massive mileage explosions of 60 miles.

Charlie Taylor Team: An explosive day from The Chucks as they attacked two-days worth of miles and tried to slam them down in one day. The end result was one of the highest mileage weekday totals of the entire race from any team. They finished the day with 195.96 miles.

The onslaught was led by Seth ‘Black Diamond’ Crowe, who in Gene Simmons fashion, promoted himself to 42.23 big miles. This guy is as tough as they come. Word on the street is that Seth eats nails for breakfast and sheet’s metal the rest of the day. Get all your metal needs at Reed’s Metals of Jackson, TN.

Seth had help, with double-30’s, from Elva Matamoros (30.58) and Tiffani Glass (30.40). Both of these women have been so strong day after day for The Chucks.

RIF #33 Robin Robbins dedicated his 13.59 miles for the day to the kids of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Robin has raised thousands of dollars for St. Jude over the years and through many races he has participated in.

The Chucks are just 77.60 miles away from the finish in New York City. Tomorrow they will arrive and celebrate. It’s been a fun and encouraging journey the entire way for the team. Friendships have been made that will last for years. Epic performances were put down that will be remembered for several lifetimes.

Hope Shull Team:  Step-by-step, the Hope Shull Team will one day, perhaps, leave the great state of Tennessee. They were solid today behind Marylou Corino’s 30.37 miles and Kit Brazier’s 23.11 miles.

The team got double-digit miles from Megan Chiu (12.15), Ben Herron (11.62), and Randy Broadway (10.00).

Whoa…late word that The Hopes crossed the Tennessee border, near Bristol, and are now into Virginia. That’s great news.

Cathy Downs RIF Race Across the USA Peak Performer of the Day

Day 17: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Getting Downes to It

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ had two themes on Day 17. The first being the strong day the Jeffrey Price Team put down with 183.82 miles to bring them just a 100 miles from reaching New York City tomorrow. The other one being the massive day that Cathy Downes threw down for the Hope Shull Team with 62.00 monster miles in one big bite. It led her team to a second place finish on the day. The Charlie Taylor Team battled through some injuries and grinded for 144.80 miles.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Jeffrey Price Team: Badwater vet Karla Kent drove this team hard today putting down 25.17 miles and was one of four from the team to put down 20+ miles. She was joined by Tom Orr with 21.36 miles, Alfa Severino (21.30), and Heather ‘Double-Dime’ McComb (20.20). Karl Studtmann also chipped in with a solid 18.11 miles.

The team finished with 183.82 miles, the most of any team on the day.

The Jeffs are just 100 miles away from celebrating a second place finish in New York City. The team is spending the night in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Well, we’re living here in Allentown
And they’re closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem, they’re killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line
Well, our fathers fought the Second World War
Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers at the USO
Asked them to dance
Danced with them slow
And we’re living here in Allentown
But the restlessness was handed down
And it’s getting very hard to stay
Well, we’re waiting here in Allentown
– Billy Joel

Charlie Taylor Team: The wear-and-tear was very visible on The Chucks today. However, they still had 100% participation. They still encouraged each other. They picked each other up. And they still pieced together 144.80 miles.

Elva Matamoros dodged mountain lions to record 18.48 miles, while Steve Acciarito dug deep to get 15.30 miles. Jen ‘Big Sexy’ Metcalf threw down a perfect 10.0.

The Queen of Pinson Mounds, Marj Mitchell, put down her second biggest mileage day of the race with 15.12 miles. Seth Crowe continued to be the rhythm of this team with 12.16 miles.

The Chucks believe they will get to NYC on Friday night.

The last mile they put down near the cut-off tonight crossed them from Virginia into West Virginia. Jeremy Reed and Jemal Swoboda herded the team into ‘Touch of Texas’ thinking it was a massage parlor with cowgirls. It turned out to be a cowboy bar with cowgirls that danced a lot more like they were from Houston than Dallas (if you know, you know). After Steve was oiled up from his rough day on the ashalt, the team was able to encourage Marj to ride the mechanical, bucking bull. Marj said as she walked up to get on, “I grew up in South Africa in the arms of lions and tigers in my bed. I don’t think this little American bull will do much.” If you haven’t by now, then you will likely see the video footage from a Chucks team member’s phone of exactly how that ride went down. Robin Robbins was vehement as he walked out that he was going to be running tomorrow in his ‘Astro-World’ cowboy hat that one of the dancers tossed his way as he was trying to finish his onion rings and strawberry malt.

I was took in Texas, I did not know her name
Lord, all these southern girls all seem the same
Down below the border in a town in Mexico
I got my job busting broncs in the rodeo
Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning ’til I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Running free with the buffalo
Here I go
– Thin Lizzy

The legs might be tired, but team chemistry is at an all-time high.

Hope Shull Team:  It was the Cathy Downes’ show on Wednesday for The Hopes with her 62.00 miles…or as we Americans like to call it, a ‘Canadian 100.’ Perhaps it was a shout-out to team captain Marylou Corino, who recorded 15.00 of her own miles.

Kit Brazier was fantastic once again with 20.09 miles. Sherry Meador and Ben Herron also put up 10+ spots for the team.

The team is still in Tennessee, and being Mare’s favorite state they might just take a few more days, or a week,  mozing on through the Volunteer State.

Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain’t no place I’d rather be
Baby won’t you carry me back to Tennessee
Drink all day and rock all night
The law come to get you if you don’t walk right
Got a letter this morning, baby all it read
You better head back to Tennessee Jed

Day 16: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Kid Danger

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ continued into the 16th day even as The Suzy Michelson Team kept partying throughout the day, overflowing from the celebration’s start last night. The three remaining teams continued to make progress today towards joining them in New York City.

The Charlie Taylor Team won the day with 157.54 miles. It’s their 3rd day win over the last week. They were followed closely by the Jeffrey Price Team with 146.14 miles. The Hope Shull Team almost cracked 100 miles, finishing just under the mark with 99.45 miles.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Jeffrey Price Team: The Jeffs were a close second place for the day, and only lost 10 miles of their lead on third place. They have a strong lead that should be tough for The Chucks to surpass.

It was the Tom and Heather Show once again with Heather ‘Double-Dime’ McComb running 20.55 miles and Tom Orr completing just under that number with 20.35. Its Heather’s 16th consecutive day of 20+ miles, a race record.

The (My) Pillars helping push this team today included Alfa Severino (19.55) who continued her hot streak, team captain Melissa Price (16.61), and big John Leighton with 14.55 miles.

The team is currently in Winchester, Virginia.

They are just 418 miles from New York City and hope to get there on Saturday. They are currently in Lexington, Virginia at the Virginia Safari Park in search of the real Tiger King.

Ben Herron chipped in with 8.32 miles and Cathy Downes had 8.33.

But the big story on the day for the team came from 9-year old Juleann Roberts who came through with 10.22 miles, her first double-digit day of the race. It was a huge help for the Hope Shull Team. Juleann now has 87.53 miles for the race and should crack 100 miles before the race is over (she’s everything Ohrey is not).

Karl Studtmann – RIF Race Across the USA Peak Performer

Day 15: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Suzy Michelson Team 1st to NYC.

The Suzy Michelson Team won Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ when Barry Reece, running the last leg for the team, stepped foot into Battery Park in New York City. His team was all smiles and cheers with the Statute of Liberty in the background behind the team.

The Suzys blazed the entire route from Santa Monica, California to New York City in 14 days, 21 hours, and 10 minutes.

Team captain Shane Tucker was the ‘Zen-Master’ keeping his high-fueled, mega-mile team of egos in check as they pushed each other hard every day of the race. They completed 160.4 miles today to finish the 2,907 mile journey.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Suzy Michelson Team: The Suzys are living it up in New York City after an amazing run. They got here days and even weeks before the pundits and experts predicted.

The team averaged 193.80 miles a day over the ~15 days. Their biggest day came two days ago when they ran 331.52 miles. Their lowest mileage day was on April 15th when they covered 160.2 miles. The Suzys ran over 200 miles three times.

The other captains sent over their congratulations to Shane Tucker, who went nearly Canadian, almost apologizing for whipping their butts so soundly. Tucker even got out his own beat-down stick putting down 33.16 miles himself on the final day to drive the stake into the hearts of the other teams.

All of the 15 team members made a big contribution to the team. Some were heavy hitters every day, and others, juggling life and jobs, did the miles they could, when they could. A total, joint team effort.

But it woulnd’t be a day in the life for this team without some 20+ mile power from Heather and Tom. Heather McComb racked up 20.31 miles, her 15th consecutive double-dime of the race. Tom Orr, who has discovered the fountain of youth, hit 20.71 miles for the day.

The Jeffs just crossed the Buchanan Swinging Bridge in Buchanan, Virginia. They are 430 miles from the finish and should arrive in NYC on Thursday.

RIFRAUSA Day 12 Map

Day 12: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Mare Bears

Run It Fast’s ‘Race Across the USA‘ is starting to near the home stretch as Day 12 has concluded. The Suzy Michelson Team continues to dominate. They are less than 700 miles from the finish in New York City. The Charlie Taylor Team was strong once again gaining 20 miles on the second place, Jeffrey Price Team. The Hope Shull Team fueled with some massive ‘woman-power’ today had one of their best days of the race and nearly had the third most miles of the day.

Let’s get into the stats, standings, and recaps from the road…

Day 12 Mileage Results of the Race Across the USA

Suzy Michelson Team: It’s another day closer to the champagne in NYC as The Suzys rued the day once again with 180.01 miles. They were led by Chris Clemens who sets the tone for this team. He finished the day with 26.42 miles. He again had monster performances from Barry Reece (22.49), David Nichols (20.76), Kimberly Atkins (20.32), and Violeta Heisler (16.4). Violeta’s been a great surprise for this team and has put down some big miles over the course of the event.

Leslie Studtmann reached double-digits again today with 14.4 miles. Anthony Ohrey also knocked off a half marathon and has been solid. He was silly happy about his new kicks he got to run in today.

The team is in White Pine, Tennessee. They should cross the Virginia border tomorrow. They are 657 miles from the finish.

Jeffrey Price Team: The Jeffs put up a respectable 140.54 miles on Friday, but they’ve lost a bit of their mojo this week. They’ve also lost sight of The Suzys. They will have to re-focus if they are going to hold off The Chucks from taking silver from them.

Even with that said, they had some inspiring performances today. Team Captain Melissa Price had 20.18 miles, her second highest result from the race. She has put down big miles every day, digging deep, obviously inspired and driven by Jeffrey.

Tom Orr is one of the big all-stars of this race. Tom had his biggest haul today with 26.08 miles, his 9th day of 20+ miles. He now has an astonishing 249.21 miles for the race.

Heather ‘Double-Dime’ McComb recorded 22.21 miles. She has run 20+ miles for all twelve days of the race. I think it’s required that she has to do that now until her team reaches the finish. It’s simply an amazing stat that is inspiring so many to dig even deeper.

Alfa Severino (16.04) and Karla Kent (15.41) were great today as well.

The team is holed up for the night in Beech Bluff, TN at the captain’s home. Half the team is inside and the other half is camping out in the yard. Dinner was catered by Los Portales, and Fleet Feet – Jackson (TN) owner Danny Crossett showed up and surprised the team with new shoes for everyone.

Charlie Taylor Team: The Chucks continued their great week with 160.24 miles and another 2nd place daily finish. They have gained 73 miles on The Jeffs over the last 4 days. Will the race end before they can catch them, though? 97.65 miles currently separate the two teams. The Jeffs are always super-strong on the weekends.

The Chucks were led today by Joshua Holmes with 30.03 miles, along with Steve Acciarito (20.75 miles), Tiffani Glass (20.54), and Jen Metcalf (20.00). Jen reached deep emotionally today and put down big miles in memory of Bub.

The Chucks are currently in Memphis, Tennessee, elbow deep in Rendezvous ribs, after crossing the Mississippi River from Arkansas. Tiffani’s husband Rick Glass made the short drive from their home in Dyersburg to join the team for dinner. He was so stoked about the Cubs having not lost a game so far this season.

Hope Shull Team: A truly superb effort today from The Hopes. Captain Marylou Corino racked up 32.00 miles, the most of anyone in the race today. She had great support from Kit Brazier (21.31 miles), and Cathy Downes (20.30 miles).

Randy Broadway, who has been very solid throughout the Run Across the USA, put down 15.00 miles. Sherry Meador was a dollar short of a half marathon with 12.02 miles on the day.

The team is somehow still in Oklahoma, but near the Arkansas border. They stopped, albeit briefly, at the 64 Swap and Flea Market to satisfy Marylou’s curiosity. Ben Herron tried to buy a pig runt at the Swap Meet to make it the team mascot, but the team outvoted him 14-1. The team then dined at Mazzio’s Italian Eatery.

Suzy Michelson Team: Another blazing day for the Suzy Team with their second highest daily miles for the race. They did it on a day when the two teams behind them had sub-par days as well. They were led by Dresden, TN legend JR Reynolds who pieced together several runs for 34.05 miles. JR has been strong throughout this race just months after knee surgery. He has 139.61 total miles for the race. The Sultans of Swat brought a lot of asphalt kickers to join JR today that included Alex Barrientos, with a big 33.38 miles, along with Barry Reece (27.55), Chris Clemens (26.39), and David Nichols (22.83).

The most heroic performance of the day, for the Suzys, came from Kimberly Atkins who had to go to the ER. She passed a kidney stone into her bladder. She then went home and did 8 miles to help the team out. This team is full of crazed addicts.

This team is less than 840 miles from the finish in New York City. They went over 2,000 miles today and the race is theirs to lose. Earlier today they passed Lebanon, Tennessee, where their own Jeff Lea calls home.

Jeffrey Price Team: One of the secrets to the success of the JPT is that they know they are starting the day with an automatic 40-45 miles from Heather McComb and Tom Orr. Neither disappointed today as Heather, true to her nickname ‘Double-Dime,’ put down 20.52 miles and Tom added a cool 20.70.

A rising star on the team this week is California native Alfa Severino who contributed 17.40 miles. Karl Studtmann had 16.68 miles and John Leighton added 11.15 miles.

The team finished in 3rd again for the day by just a couple of miles. They are poised to have a big weekend. It might be too late to catch The Suzys, but I expect another strong charge at them this weekend.

The Jeffs are currently at the Madison Light Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, Arkansas.

Charlie Taylor Team: A late day surge got the Chucks over the 100-mile mark for the day and near their daily average. Today they had 144.06 total team miles. This team is gritty and grinds out what they can every day, often going out for one more run when they think they have nothing left.

Today, they were led by Steve Acciarito with 24.35 miles. Steve has had a huge week. Elva Matamoros added 18.55 miles and has 144.73 miles for the race. Seth Crowe, in between filling prescriptions, pieced together 16.29 miles. Tiffani Glass followed yesterday’s 25-miles with 14.22 today.

The team finished second for the day, a handful of miles ahead of the Jeffs. They have made up some ground on the Jeffs this week. Can they continue to make a push for 2nd place? We will have a better picture of the odds of that reality after the weekend.

The Chucks are in Conway, Arkansas, the birthplace of NBA legend Scottie Pippen. They hope to make it to Memphis tomorrow if all goes well.

Jimmy Girten was a beast today for the team with 16.34 miles. His highest output of the event and in many months. It’s good to see Jimmy G running well.

The Hopes are literally stuck in Shawnee, Oklahoma after a round-robin buffet at Cracker Barrel, WhataBurger, McAllister’s Deli, and Chick-fil-A.
