Day 12 Run It Fast Race Across the USA Map

Day 12: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – FFWD Run

Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA usually has a bit of a lull every Friday before big massive weekends from the teams, but today was the exception to that rule. Rev ‘FFWD’ Run had it’s second biggest day of the entire event with 248.82 miles, just five miles off it’s high of 253.18 on May 23rd.

The biggest performance of the day, once again, went to Ed ‘the Jester’ Ettinghausen with 51.30 miles. It’s like he’s in a massive hurry to get his team back to his native California and himself, hopefully, to Death Valley in early July for his 10th consecutive Badwater 135.

The R(Andy) Show starring Randy Broadway and Andy Glaze was strong once again with a combined 36.85 miles. They were led again by Ximena Kriete, back in the 30’s today, with 32.33 miles. Henriett Blodgett grabbed the mic when the second song came on and belted out 31.25 miles. Rene ‘Fast as Fast Can Be, You’ll Never Catch Me’ Fosdal-Griffin dropped the confetti from the rafters with 21.68 miles.

It also jumped them two spots in the overall standings to 5th. They were led by Cathy Downes’ second massive performance of the race. Seth Crowe, after a couple low days, ratcheted up the odometer to 35.27 miles. Steve Troxel hit a ‘Dome-Run’ with 25.39 miles.

A rough day for The Lou’s, but only a day it makes. They are still in the thick of the pack with a better day tomorrow on the horizon. They might be knocked down, but they won’t lay on that timing mat for too long.

THE BEETROOTS – Day 11: 135.71 Miles (4th) – 11th overall

Big, big day and miles for The Roots. They had nearly matching mileage days from Amy Costa and Kendra Schoffstall. Both were vital in leading the team to a 4th place finish on the day. One would seem to be able to predict the mileage for the Yo-Yo’s tomorrow, but predictions are easy to make with no money on the line.

The team is currently in Biscoe, Arkansas

BR’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Amy Costa – 42.74 miles
  2. Kendra Schoffstall – 40.03 miles

2020 Boston Marathon Canceled, Turned into Virtual Event

The Boston Marathon, originally scheduled for April 13, 2020 before being postponed to Sept 14, 2020 due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic, has now been canceled according to Boston mayor Marty Walsh and race organizers.

“There’s no way to hold the usual race format without bringing large numbers of people into close proximity,” Walsh said in an announcement.

“While our goal and our hope was to make progress and contain the virus in recovering our economy, this kind of event would not be responsible or realistic on September 14 or anytime this year.”

The race will be run virtually this year with runners covering the 26.2 mile distance during Sept 7-14 from wherever they reside.

All participants who were originally registered for the April 20, 2020 event will be offered a full refund of their entry fee associated with the race and will have the opportunity to participate in the virtual alternative to the 124th Boston Marathon, which can be run any time between September 7–14. The B.A.A. will also offer a series of virtual events and activities throughout September’s Marathon Week in an effort to bring the Boston Marathon experience to the constituencies that the organization serves here in Boston, across the United States, and around the world.

More details at BostonMarathon.org

Although not a surprising call due to the covid-19 outbreak, it is still upsetting to many in the racing community, especially those that were heading to Boston for their first Boston Marathon.

It came from strong performances by Lisa Van Wolde (25.12 miles), Tiffani Glass (20.24), and Joan Lamayo-Buse (14.52). Team morale is down for  P-1 with the race ending injury to it’s big miler Thomas Fowler. Captain Rich Peers continues to lead by example, but he might need to dig deep for a Knute Rockne speech to amp up the rest of the team to help make up Fowler’s missing miles. The bad news is those three made up 55.24 of the team’s 69.76 miles. As in the other eight members of the team contributed 14.52 miles total. Is this the same team that had 145.86 miles this past Sunday?

The team is in Brownsville, Tennessee being chased by a swarm of killer hornet bees.

  1. Brenda Cross – 22.01 miles

Lisa Devona – Rainbow – Run It Fast Race Across the USA – Day 9

Day 9: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Holiday Hangover Edition

Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA no doubt had a ‘Holiday Hangover’ on Day 9. The fewest total miles were recorded of the entire race to date. Some things didn’t change though. Rev Run still had the most miles for the day and padded their insurmountable lead. The Metcalvary, our second place overall team, had the second most miles on the day. So those teams were lock-n-key.

Where we saw the best performances outside of the two two came from Grapes of Rath, third place on the day with 141.64 points, and Alfa’s Omega’s 133.29, miles on the day for fourth. Both of these teams moved up two spots in the standings. GOR to third and AO to sixth. They were the only teams in the race to outperform their daily averages.

The Top 5 Teams on Day 9

  1. Rev Run – 175.09
  2. The Metcalvary – 144.53
  3. Grapes of Rath – 141.64
  4. Alfa’s Omegas – 133.29
  5. Mojo Rising – 115.14

Run It Fast Race Across the USA Map Day 8

Day 8: Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA – Memorial Day

Run It Fast’s Race Across the USA paused today to remember those that have fallen serving our country and thank everyone that has to protect our land and freedoms.

On the road today, the Harlem Globetrotters were up to their usual tricks and domination of their opponents. They ended the day with 193.61 miles which is about their magic spot during the workweek.

In the Washington Generals division, the race saw The Metcalvary continue to create separation from the other ten teams. Currently the Rev’s are on another planet, then there is The Metcalvary creating it’s own modular radius around them.

The biggest bounce up today came from Kicking Glass that finished 3rd on the day with 138.48 miles, a 40-mile jump from yesterday.

[aside: Tuck n’ Stroll’s Doug Barnette played several years on the Washington Generals, never once beating the Globetrotters. As a member of the Generals, they were something like 0-345.]

The Top 5 Teams on Day 8

  1. Rev Run – 193.61
  2. The Metcalvary – 148.64
  3. Kicking Glass – 138.48

Today on Memorial Day we had two veterans that really above and beyond their normal mileage to remember those who have fallen in combat for our freedom. Two truly amazing performances today.

J.d. Barnette (Tuck n’ Stroll) and David Essary (Alfa’s Omega’s, photographed above) are the Race Across the USA’s Peak Performers of the day with 31.20 and 32.20 miles, respectively. A big thank you to both of these guys along with all the other men and women in our race who have served or are serving to protect us.

Team Captain David Pharr got in on the big-mile action with 26.55 miles. Dr. Karl Studtmann went for a marathon distance with 26.31 miles. THE METCALVARY – Day 8: 148.64 Miles (2nd) – 2nd overall

Jen Metcalf has captained The Mets into a strong grip of 2nd place overall. They likely won’t catch Rev Run, but she has the team in a spot where no team behind them will likely catch them, as well.

Not a massive day from anyone, but really solid days from so many that gave them the 2nd most miles on the day. Elissa Higgins, a rising star, led the team with 22.08 miles. She was followed by Erik Pascual with 21.48, and Randy ‘Mustaine’ Broadway has been rock (n’ roll) solid every day.

The team is in Little Rock, Arkansas.

  2. Erik Pascual – 21.48 miles

TUCK N’ STROLL – Day 8: 137.44 Miles (4th) – 3rd overall

X always marks the spot on The Tucks. Ximena Kriete had 31.55 miles on Monday, but as mentioned above, J.d. Barnette was spectacular with his 31.20 miles.

They moved up a spot in the standings since yesterday.

  3. Rene Fosdal-Griffin – 17.68 miles

CROWE BARS – Day 8: 116.30 Miles (8th) – 4th overall

A relaxing day of BBQ, yard-darts, and cake-pops at the Crowe Bars n’ Grill. Steve Troxel, taking a step back from his 50K-a-day, still knocked down a double-dime (20.37 miles). Amy Hazlewood was splendid again with 18.32 miles and Cathy Downes rebounded from her big Saturday to have 18.29 today.

The team is in Bartlett, Tennessee which might explain why their miles were down and spirits were high. Fleet Feet – Jackson owner Danny Crossett was reportedly seen with the team earlier and likely the leader in their Memorial Day celebration.

CB’s Top Performers of the Day

  1. Steve Troxel – 20.37 miles
  2. Amy Hazlewood – 18.32 miles
  3. Cathy Downes – 18.29 miles

GRAPES OF RATH – Day 8: 122.62 Miles (6th) – 5th overall

GOR tore down I-40 today between Jackson and Memphis. With the temps up, and tired legs-a-dragging, team captain Scott Kufferath decided to take the team to Adventure River to enjoy the water slides and wave pool. It seemed to work as the team had a bit more lift in their legs late in the afternoon when they got back to putting miles on the road.

They were led in miles today by Chris Clemens with 33.o0. Lisamarie Griffin ran 23.02 miles and Elva Matamoros ran 17.88.

GOR’s Top Performers of the Day

They were led by Audrey Davis with 24.08 miles. JR Reynolds continued his shirtless work with another strong day of 23.84 miles. Lindsay Phenix upped her mileage for the 8th consecutive day to 23.24 miles.

The team is currently near Mason, Tennessee. They enjoyed dinner at the original Gus’s World Famous Chicken…sweet tea, fried pickles, chicken, and chess pie. Does it get any better?

TRIP 2 MY LOU – Day 8: 104.51 Miles (10th) – 7th overall

A drop in miles for the Lou’s and down two spots in the standings, but not really a huge deal as most everyone was down a bit today. They are in 7th overall but less than a mile behind Mojo.

They were led by team captain Marylou Corino’s 27.20 miles. Russ Metteer continued his 3-day hot streak with 23.03 miles. Christy Brewer, currently passing through her hometown of Memphis, contributed a total of 13.10 miles for Lou.

David ‘Five-O’ Essary really dug deep all day to compile 32.30 miles for the Alfa’s. He was magnificent, and the Alfa’s really needed those miles to save the day. Essary got to see his wife and children as the race came down I-40 close to his homestead in Lexington.

The Alfa’s miles were down a good bit from yesterday, but they still placed higher on the day than they are overall which is good.

Team captain Alfa Severino added 20.28 miles. Allison Barcelona landed on 14.93 for the day.

The Ultimate Stage Race

The Ultimate Stage Race – Marathon is a virtual stage race where runners and walkers compete for five consecutive days, running 5.25 miles each day, to finish the event with a total distance of 26.25 miles.

Every day there will be daily standings and rankings. To finish the race however you have to run/walk 5.25 miles for five consecutive days from June 6-10, 2020. You will then be in the official standings for the race and will receive a finisher’s medal in the mail.

It’s a virtual race which means you will be competing from wherever you are in the world. This will allow you to compete against friends, family, yourself, and even rivals from all over the globe.

  • June 6 – 5.25 miles
  • June 7 – 5.25 miles
  • June 8 – 5.25 miles
  • June 9 – 5.25 miles
  • June 10 – 5.25 miles
  • Total Distance – 26.25 miles (marathon)

Overall results will be determined by adding up your ‘elapsed time’ from all five stages.

This race is beautifully set up to be a fun challenge to runners and walkers of all levels.

On one end we will have many that have to work hard to run or walk 5.25 miles at once. It must be at one time and not pieced together throughout the day. And on the other end we will have some very fast, competitive women and men running every daily stage as fast as they can to see where they will rank among their peers.

Entrants have until 10pm each day to submit their GPS/Garmin/Strava results to us. That’s right we require proof that the miles were completed and do our best to check and verify those results. And it’s ‘elapsed time’ not ‘moving time.’

It’s a great challenge for many new runners and walkers to the sport that might not be ready for a traditional marathon. A challenge where you can push your limits for five consecutive days to complete 5.25 miles and have to get up and do that for five consecutive days.
