2012 Maui Oceanfront Marathon Winner Chuck Engle and his Winning Hardware

Chuck ‘Marathonjunkie’ Engle Wins 2012 Maui Oceanfront Marathon (Results)

Famed marathoner Chuck ‘Marathonjunkie’ Engle won the 2012 Maui Oceanfront Marathon on Sunday in Maui with a winning time of 2:50:02.

Chuck ran slower than he expected to and said the heat played a factor during the last 10 miles of the race. However, his performance was still golden enough to hold off Hawaiian native Jon McGonangle who finished four minutes back in 2:54:27.

The female race was a good bit closer as Mari Kauri held off Vera Monsao with a time of 3:19:00 to win by a gap of 93 seconds.

Peter Omae Ayieni Arizona Marathon 2012 Winner

Peter Omae Ayieni Wins 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon (Results)

Peter Omae Ayieni won the 2012 P.F. Changs Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon on Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona with a time of 2:24:47.

It was a close finish as Ayieni barely held off Chad Ware who finished 11 seconds behind him in 2:24:58.  Third place was close behind as well as Jeremy Zarins completed the podium with a very fast time of 2:25:08.

What a finish with just 21 seconds separating the top three men.

Louisiana Marathon Inaugural Poster

Matthew Manning Wins Inaugural Louisiana Marathon (Results)

Matthew Manning won the inaugural Louisiana Marathon held Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, with a winning time of 2:33:41.

Manning smoked the field, beating his nearest competitor, Chuck Engle, by nearly 11 minutes. Engle finished in 2:44:05 to barely hold off Christopher Reis who took third with a time of 2:45:38.

Karen Meraw was the fasest female marathoner down in ‘Red Stick’ on Sunday with a time of 2:58:54.  She beat Candace Caveny by almost ten minutes. Caveny finished in 3:08:53.  Third place female went to Grace Thacker with a time of 3:09:36.

The 2012 Louisiana Half Marathon was won by Jonathan Granger in 1:17:42 with the top female being Kelly Nicholas in 1:29:42.

Chevron Houston Marathon Aramco Half Marathon 40th Anniversary

Tariku Jufar Wins 2012 Houston Marathon (Results)

Ethiopian Tariku Jufar won the 2012 Chevron Houston Marathon on Sunday morning with a winning time of 2:06:51.  Jufar held off fellow countrymen Debebe Tolossa (2:07:41) and Demssew Tsega (2:11:13) who finished in third.

USA Women Finish Line Photo – Desiree Davila, Shalane Flanagan, Kara Goucher

Meb Keflezighi & Shalane Flanagan Win 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials – Houston Marathon Results

Today the 2012 USA Olympic Marathon Trails were held at the Chevron Houston Marathon down in Texas.  It was a very speedy and fast day as four Americans went under 2:10:00 for the first time ever during the same marathon.

American male Meb Keflezighi won the Houston Marathon with the fastest time of 2:09:08 which is a new personal record (PR) for Meb.

Ryan Hall finished in a close 2nd place at 2:09:30.

  3. Abdi Abdirahman – 2:09:47
  4. Dathan Ritzenhein – 2:09:55

It looks like it will be Meb, Ryan, Abdi representing the USA at the Olympics with Dathan as the 1st alternative.

Shalane Flanagan was the female winner as she held off Desiree Davila to finish with a time of 2:25:38.  Flanagan moves to 6-0 in the head-to-head matchup with Davila to date.

That means Flanagan, Davila, and Goucher will represent in the Olympics with Hastings as the alternate.

Recover from the Holidays 50K Dewayne Satterfield – Joshua Holmes

DeWayne Satterfield All Business in Winning 2011 Recover from the Holidays 50K (Results)

Huntsville’s DeWayne Satterfield was all business wear, while being his jovial self, in winning the 2011 Recover the the Holidays 50K yesterday in Huntsville, Alabama.

Satterfield beat out Tim Vinson with a time of 3:50:59. Vinson was less than 6 minutes behind Satterfield in 3:56:35.  Finland’s Kari Salomaa took third place with a time of 4:10:01.

The female winner was Tammy Tribett who finished the course in 4:25:30.

The course consisted of a 1-mile out and back, followed by 10 loops on the Huntsville Cross Country 5k course.

Johnny Clemons Wins 2011 Lookout Mountain 50 Miler (Results)

Johnny Clemons won the 2011 Lookout Mountain 50 Miler on Saturday with a finishing time of 7:23:04 (8:52 pace).

Clemons completed the challenging course nearly 10 minutes faster than the second placer finisher, Troy Shellhammer, who finished in 7:32:52.  Third place went to Nick Lewis in 7:42:56.

The overall female winner was Deborah Livingston with a winning time of 9:16:20.

Second place female went to Lora Liu (10:05:44) and third place was Molly Freeman (10:15:22)

Scott Jurek Chasing Valmir Nunes in Taiwan 24 Hour Ultra

Scott Jurek Chasing Record at Soochow International 24-Hour Ultra in Taiwan (Results)

 

Scott Jurek, the most famous ultramarathoner in United States history, is at the Soochow International Ultra-Marathon 24-Hour Track Invitational in Taiwan attempting to break the 24-hour record of 188 miles.

The race started a couple hours ago at 8pm ET.

Connie Gardner is representing the woman for the USA at the event.

11:42am – I turn away for a few hours and the world is turned upside down. Nunes has fallen way back, down to 22nd place with 132.8K.  Ryoichi Sekiya has taken the lead with 181.6K.  Female Mami Kudo is the #1 female and 2nd overall with 177.2K.  Emmanuel Fontaine is in 3rd with 167.2K.  Jurek is back in 7th at 160.oK.

4:52am – Nearly 9 hours in…Jurek has dropped back to 3rd/4th with 104.0K (64.6 miles), tied with the lead woman Mami Kudo.  Nunes is in 1st with a sizable lead at 112.4K (69.84 miles).  2nd is Sekiya at 104.8K.  According to Jurek’s Twitter his ‘low’ spot is over as he feels rejuvenated, strong and ready to make a move.  Nearly 15 hours left to go.

1:36am – Last update as I catch some sleep. Nunes has increased his lead to 13 laps. He is now at 73.2K. Jurek is at 68.0K and Ryoichi Sekiya is now in third with Bogar dropping back to the 5th spot. Mami Kudo is the top woman in 4th place with 65.6K.

1:00am – Nunes 65.6K, Jurek 61.2K, Bogar 59.6K. 11 lap lead for Nunes over Jurek at this point.  Connie Gardner is at 53.2K in 2nd place for the ladies. Leading lady, Mami Kudo is at 58.4K and in 5th place overall.

12:12am – Runners change track direction every 4 hours.

12:00am – Nunes now holds a 9 lap lead. 136 laps to Jurek’s 127 laps (54.8k to 51.2k). Bogar remains in third.

11:00pm – Nunes still holds a 2.8k lead with 102 laps (40.8K), Jurek now in 2nd 95 laps (38.0K), and Bogar also with 95 laps (38.0K). Connie is 82 laps (32.8K)

10:00pm – Brazils’ Valmir Nunes is off to the quick lead. He has put down 63 laps so far (25.2K). I had the chance to race with Nunes at the Strolling Jim 40 Miler a couple of years ago in Wartrace, TN. The guy is a machine. János Bogár is in 2nd place with 60 laps (24.0K) and Jurek is in third just behind with 59 laps (23.6K).

Connie Gardner is currently the 2nd female 51 laps (20.4K).

Beth McCurdy’s Destroyed Feet from Ancient Oaks 100

Beth McCurdy’s NASTY Ancient Oaks 100 Feet (Photo Not For the Weak) – Results

Beth McCurdy is one of the best ultramarathon runners in the South.  She completed her third 100 mile ultramarathon on Sunday at the invite-only Ancient Oaks 100 Mile in Titusville, Florida.  Beth’s feet hung on just long enough for her to finish in an impressive 25:47:25.

Her feet however  were left along the course in several pieces as the photo above can attest.  The photo also proves just how tough Mrs. McCurdy is when a finish line is in sight.

2011 Flying Monkey Female Champ Traci Falbo with Fan Club

Ben Schneider Wins 4th Consecutive Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon (Results)

2011 Flying Monkey Marathon Winner Ben Schneider

Minneapolis native Ben Schneider won his 4th consecutive Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2:38:38.

Here are his winning times from the past four years (most recent first): 2:38:38, 2:38:27, 2:38:56, and 2:36:25.

Gary ‘Avatar’ Krugger, the 2nd human to run a sub-3 hour marathon in all 50 states, came in second place in 2:55:51.  Feb ‘The Great Memphian’ Boswell rounded out the podium with a fleet 3:00:36.

Side note: John ‘You all know what I had for breakfast’ Ramsay came in fourth place.

Flying Monkey Female Winner Traci Falbo with Fan Club

Traci Falbo repeated as the female winner of The Monkey.  She blistered her competition with a 3:13:49 and finished 7th overall.

She ran a 3:21:43 last year in winning and a 3:44:28 back in 2009.  Congrats to Traci on the repeat!

Meredith Smith was the 2nd female Monkey across in 3:26:51 while Candice Schneider, wife of Ben (overall winner), took third place in 3:31:04
