Hurricane Sandy came close to making the 2012 ING New York City Marathon not take place, but Mayor Bloomberg has spoken and it will go on as planned.
This will also be the first year since 1993 that the marathon will be aired nationally on television.
The NYC Marathon will air on ESPN 2 on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 9am – 12:30pm ET.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell also got this interesting tidbit out of NYRR CEO Mary Wittenberg:
We’ve had names on bibs for five or six years. What we’ve done this year is tell the uniform and shoe companies not to give athletes who are similar in height the same outfits or shoe colors. We also know the picture will be clearer than ever before because it will be in HD for the first time. It will pop like a painting with the runners and all the fall colors.
Tune in on Sunday to watch one of the most popular marathons in the world take place live.

U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall Withdraws from 2012 ING New York City Marathon
Injuries Force Him Out of November 4 Race
New York, September 10, 2012- The 2012 ING New York City Marathon men's
field will lose previously announced Ryan Hall due to a series of small but
stubborn injuries, including plantar fasciitis and tightness in his legs,
which have caused him to lose too much training time, it was announced
today by New York Road Runners officials.
"I am very disappointed to not be able to run this year's ING New York City
Marathon," said Hall, 29, of Redding, CA. "I was hoping that after some
time off and treatment after the Games, the string of nagging injuries I've
been dealing with this year would be behind me. After trying to run
through, I came to the realization when keeping the big picture in mind,
that I needed to take a longer break to let things heal and not rush the
training. As much as I would love to still race after taking the break, my
integrity will not let me show up to the line if I'm not fit."
Hall started the Olympic Marathon in London last month, but was forced to
stop due to injury. The men's field features Hall's U.S. Olympic Marathon
teammates Meb Keflezighi and Abdi Abdirahman. Other top Americans include
Jason Hartmann, Brett Gotcher, Nick Arciniaga, Scott Bauhs, Andrew Carlson,
and Ryan Vail.

Apolo decided to enter the race back in February when Subway spokesman Jared Fogle challenged him to do it (full story).
He jokingly tweeted a warning to fellow warnings pre-race:
Warning 2 all, I apologize in advance 4 those who run on my left side. I’ve a severe tendency 2 take sharp lefts consistently. #shorttrack
