Here are the finisher medals from the Southern Tennessee Plunge Marathon & Half Marathon that took place on October 6, 2012 in Winchester, Tennessee.

This beautiful and large medal is just another reason why the STP races continue to grow in size from year to year. Time will tell if the race can continue the trend next year with a new race director.

Susan Ford at Ironman Florida, November 4, 2006

Susan Ford is a monster. Stay out of her way and you won’t get hurt. That’s a hyperbolic way to paint the tender-hearted veterinarian from Cookeville, Tennessee, but, too, a way of saying she is the hardest charging training and racing fanatic I’ve seen.

At this moment she is in Kona, Haiwaii awaiting Saturday’s World Championship Ironman. As is Amy Dodson, another friend, with whom Susan is sharing a hotel room. Yesterday’s post was about Amy. This one is about Susan.

Recent training ride along Blackburn Fork, Jackson County, Tennessee

I knew Susan when running a 10K put her at risk of overuse injuries. No more. Fourteen Ironman races have changed that, transformed her to a hard body that could cut glass. Her Twitter handle is @Ironmaam. That’s a good title for the story too.

Here is the finisher’s medal from the Fort4Fitness Half Marathon that took place September 29, 2012 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This race was the 2012 RRCA Half Marathon Regional Championship.

This is the medal for the 2012 Run Crazy Horse Marathon held on September 30, 2012 in Hill City, South Dakota.  It is made of clay and boasts the sculpture of what the Crazy Horse Memorial will eventually look like when completed many decades from now.  It has a very charming, homemade look and the leather strap for a ribbon gives it a rugged, western feel.

There were 753 runners that participated in either the full or the half marathon.  Runners were more likely to run the half marathon, which sported roughly a 900 foot net descent, while the full marathon added a gradual climb from miles 13 – 20.
