Run It Fast’s Extreme Racer Standings (thru June 2015)

5 Jackal Marathoners in 5 Days: David Oglesby, Diane Bolton, Anthony Ohrey, Leslie Harwell, Joshua Holmes

This has been a very busy summer for Run It Fast members all over the globe, and the Extreme Racer standings are constantly changing. June was the host month of Run It Fast’s own Jackal Marathons, a series of 5 marathons in 5 days held in 3 different locations in West Tennessee. Several RIF members racked up race miles over the course of those 5 days, some running more than one marathon. There were 5 awesome people who ran all 5 Jackal marathons: RIF #1 Joshua Holmes, RIF #159 Diane Bolton, RIF #417 Leslie Harwell, RIF #19 David Oglesby, and RIF #27 Anthony Ohrey. Between the mileage, the heat, the humidity and the bugs, the conditions were rough and all of the runners battled each day to finish. Every runner who took home a medal deserves a big congratulations, but these particular 5 who finished all 5 days deserve an outstanding round of applause and all the respect that can be mustered.

Having run all 5 Jackal marathons in June along with 51 miles at RUTS and the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, #1 Joshua Holmes is now leading the men with 915.8 points. Joshua just finished the Vermont 100 last week, and will be running the Badwater 135 next week, so he will likely be leading the standings for July as well. Coming in second place is RIF #279 George Southgate with 836.5 points. And rounding out our top 3 men is RIF #190 John Kent Leighton.

Leading our females is RIF #287 Carol Earles with 625.7 points. In second place is RIF #450 Patricia Klein with 604 points. Coming in third place is RIF #473 Teal Clark with 597.7 points.

No matter where you are in your running adventure, keep on doing your thing. You are an inspiration and you are amazing. You never know who is watching or who you have encouraged to step out of their comfort zone, into a world that will change their lives forever. Keep being you.

Run It Fast’s Extreme Racer Standings (Thru May 2015)

George Southgate photo by Tim Rogan - Run It Fast

Since I am sitting here following the Western States Endurance Run 100 progress (where several RIF members, including RIF #1 and founder Joshua Holmes, are laying down the miles and getting close to the finish line), now is as good of a time as any to tally up the Extreme Racer points for the year through May.

Last year’s winner has joined the pack this month and entered his miles for the year. However, I am surprised to see that he is not in first place so far. Leading the way is RIF #279 George Southgate with 768.6 points. Second place is held by RIF #190 John Kent Leighton with 744.15 points. Last year’s winner, RIF #121 Ed Ettinghausen takes third place with 704.02 points.

RIF #159 Diane Bolton is in first for the women with 395.6 points. Following very close behind is RIF #450 Patricia Klein with 394.4 points. Third place is held by RIF #358 Belinda Young with 393.1 points. With a 2.5 point difference between first and third place, one race could completely rearrange the order of placings here for next month.

Here are the Extreme Racer standings through May:

June has been a busy month for Run It Fast members, especially with Run It Fast’s own Jackal Marathon series, which ran for 5 consecutive days during the third week in June, so I’m sure these numbers will increase dramatically and placings will change all over the board. As always, Run It Fast members continue to inspire and amaze by pushing their boundaries and testing their limits. I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year holds for this incredible group of determined runners.

Run It Fast – Super Losers Series

The RIF Super Loser Series

RIF #1 Joshua Holmes has asked me to set up a new series of blog posts featuring those of us who have struggled through weight loss and how running has helped achieve our goals.

We would like to feature club members who have been successful at losing weight through lifestyle changes, running and living healthy.

If you have struggled to lose those last 5-10lbs , lost a significant amount of weight or are currently in the process we want to here from you.

You can comment below if you would like to be featured in this series or email me directly at inkdgirl55@yahoo.ca .

You may think your loss isn’t significant or doesn’t mean anything but let me tell you , it sure does. Your story may just motivate someone who is currently struggling through this process and we all know it is a struggle. If your story helps just 1 person to get up off that couch and go for a walk – you have inspired someone to make a change.

Dawn’s Super Loser Story

So let me be the first one to share my story with you.

In August 2010 I weighed 284 lbs and I was not happy.

I had a revised Gastric Bypass surgery and lost a total of 144lbs over the next 4 years. Once my weight had come down to a certain size in 2012 I decided I wanted to “try” running. For fear of anyone ever seeing me I ran at night, when it was dark, in all black clothing! I started out with a walk/run to and from street lights and that was hard! I then graduated to running the local high school track and before you know it I actually felt confident enough to run on a treadmill at the gym. My very first race was a 5k and I nailed it 31 minutes – I officially caught the running bug. A month later I ran my first ever half marathon with little to no real training in 2:30.

Since 2012, I have ran 3-50k’s, 2-26.2 and 9-13.1 races. I run my first 50 miler in July. I have a board at my house (see below) that keeps me motivated to run and collect bibs.

Dawn Bib Wall

Running is my escape, my quiet time and my time to reflect. Often I hear myself saying “the old you wouldn’t be doing this” and it keeps me going. I will not quit, I will not give up and all I want is for my story to motivate just 1 person who thinks they can’t do it – Do it!

Dawn Barnable - Run It Fast

The Run It Fast® Club & community inspires and motivates me daily – because of this group of people I have achieved goals I never thought possible.

So again, if you have a story to tell let’s hear it. Together our stories can inspire others to take that first step to make big changes.

– Dawn

Run It Fast’s Extreme Racer Standings (Thru March 2015)

Deo Jaravata, Yolanda Holder, Andrea Kooiman, Joshua Holmes before the Catalina Eco Marathon

Spring has sprung, and runners are starting to come out of their burrows. No matter where you call home, runners and walkers alike are covering roads and sidewalks in their running shoes with their friends, pets and strollers in tow, enjoying the warm sunshine and doing their best to shed a few winter pounds. Whether you are an indoor winter runner or a year-round outdoor vet, race mileage is beginning to accrue and, with it, points. Extreme Racer points, that is.

With Run It Fast’s continual growth of new members, the Extreme Racer competition already has many new competitors than last year, and I enjoy seeing how the change in competition shakes up the standings. Particularly, there are several more women who are taking part this year. Therefore, I will start this post with the women’s leaderboard.

Congratulations to our winners and all of those that placed in the top 10, to those who hit their mileage goals for the year, completed a new distance or ran a PR this year! Remember, it’s not really about how many miles you run or how fast you run them. It’s about the enjoyment of the sport and making so many new friends along the way.

Another year has come and gone, and many miles were shared with friends or tread with quiet solitude. We cannot count the number of laughs or painful tears shed, the number of toenails lost, gels eaten or swear words spit out in a fit of exhaustion and frustration, so we count the distance instead, which is a mild representation of the journey we have traveled.

Many do not understand our masochism or the amount of soul-searching, gut-wrenching determination and heart that goes into the art of distance running. But as fellow runners, we can all appreciate and understand someone’s pain and suffering, joy and victory that is represented by the label of their yearly mileage.

So as the year comes to a close, let’s take a moment to celebrate those who have both suffered and celebrated the most this year.

As an added bonus, here are some stats to wrap your mind around:

  • The RIF men participating in the Extreme Racer competition raced a total of 18,000.28 miles in 2014.
  • The RIF women participating in the Extreme Racer competition raced a total of 11,043.64 miles in 2014.
  • That makes a total of 29,043.93 miles raced by RIF members in 2014, but ONLY those who entered their race miles for the year.
  • Only 52 RIF members entered their yearly race miles for 2014 and RIF now has over 400 members.
  • Assuming these numbers are a good representation of RIF in it’s entirety, that would be about 232,351.44 miles RACED by RIF members in one year.
  • That’s a little over 9 times around the Earth’s equator.
  • I wonder what the number would be if we counted training miles, too.

That’s a lot of mileage. You guys are so amazing and inspiring. What an honor to be a part of such an incredible group!

We are down to two months left in 2014. It is crazy how fast time goes by. Especially when you’re having fun! And what’s more fun than racing, right?

Even though there are only two months left in the year, there are still a lot of great races where you can rack up on points. I know several RIF members dominated at Tunnel Hill 100/50 miler this weekend, and other races coming up like Run It Fast’s own Black Diamond, Double Black Diamond, and Sequoyah at the end of this month. Anything can happen.

Whatever you do, keep running, keep racing and keep inspiring others.

Run It Fast’s Extreme Racer Standings (August 2014)

Marj Mictchell XR - Run It Fast

Finally, the last summer month has passed, and we can begin to look forward to cooler temperatures. It has been an awesome summer of racing and I’m proud to see that Run It Fast members haven’t let the heat get in the way of their racing and training. But there are still a few months left in the year, and still a lot of really good races to participate in, like the Tunnel Hill 100 miler and 50 miler, the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon and RIF’s own Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond 40 milers.

It has been such an enjoyment to see the miles entered for the Extreme Racer competition, and be able to cheer everyone on from a distance. Not much has changed for the male leaders. RIF #121 Ed Ettinghausen is in the lead with 2584.8 points. RIF #1 Joshua Holmes is in second with 1205.3 points. RIF #279 George Southgate is in third place with 948.67 points.

For the females, there has been a bit of a shake-up. RIF #159 Diane Bolton has snatched the lead with 930.87 points. RIF #323 Jennifer Hatcher is not far behind with 804.2 points. RIF #287 Carol Earles has entered the top 3 at third place with 685.4 points.
