The prevalence of marathons has exploded in the past decade across the United States, and the entry fee for these races has exploded at the exact same pace.
So we have compiled the list below of The Most Expensive Marathons in the United States that we could find. We are sure there are many that aren’t on this list that we haven’t come across yet. Don’t worry! We’ll update the list as they come to our attention.
(The list is limited to 26.2 mile marathons. It does not include half marathons or ultramarathons.)

This is the finisher’s medal (top picture) for the San Francisco Marathon and Half Marathon that was held on June 16, 2013 in San Francisco, California.
Congratulations to RIF #140 Dennis who ran the 2nd Half this year and completed the Half It All Challenge (bottom pics)!
If you run the San Francisco Half Marathon, you can choose to run either the 1st Half or the 2nd Half of the marathon course. If you run each half in 2 consecutive years, then you complete the Half It All Challenge and get an additional medal. Pretty cool!

Here are the medals for the San Francisco Marathon and the First Half Half Marathon that was held on July 29, 2012 in San Francisco, California.
The San Francisco Marathon has a full marathon and 2 half marathons on race day. The First Half runs the first half of the marathon course and includes the Golden Gate Bridge. The Second Half runs the second half of the course and does not go over the bridge. If you run San Francisco, you have to run the bridge!
