3:05pm-We did it! We’ve finished the 2011 Tennessee Ragnar Relay. We didn’t set any records (as a team) but we had a really good time. Chad Richardson, who was injured in a couple of places, fired off a final leg to our race that impressed us all.
2:11pm– Brandon pushed really hard and had a good last leg. Tackett then had his third really good run, breaking his projected pace every time.
12:45pm– James Krenis smoked his last leg. 8.56 miles at a 7:58 pace. His best run EVER! He handed off to Brandon. We are now off to find him.
11:35am –Travis climbed his own lil’ Mt. Everest for his final leg he just concluded. Big climb then winding descent. He was passing tutu’s left and right. Travis says “No, mas!”
11:00am– I finished my third and final leg of 6.58 miles at a 7:40 pace (50:29). Challenging leg that started in Cool Springs and went through a lot of commercial buildings and intersections. Not too scenic but good challenge.
9:30am– Van 1 is done. Mr. Carton dug really deep and did a 4.5 mike leg to conclude Van 1’s legs. Great job by KC, Flowers, Pearson, Miller, Festervand, and Geno.
4:00am-Chad’s hammy is hurting but Lil’ Noriega toughed it out. Van 2 hands off to Van 1.
3:48am-Brandon kept the Van2 speed going by running his leg in 8:00. Tackett then continued to blister his projected pace. This time by 31 seconds per mile over the 4.5 mile leg. Van 1 is about to take over for their last sets of legs while Van 2 hits the showers. Mean Gene leading off for V1.
3:00am-Krenis done with his 2nd run. 7:47 pace for 3.76 miles. Van 2 is smoking!!!
1:42amKirk is hurting, van 1 is hurting except Flowers who is having a great day. He did his second leg 5.64 miles at 7:52 pace.
Van 2 had great dinner in Winchester at Arrizo’s and met two of our course volunteers, Whitney and Anna. So thankful for their help.
I started Van 2’s second set of legs with 8.30 miles at 7:13 pace 60:00:01. Travis took the baton and kept our speed going. James is now out running under 7 layers of clothes. 40 deg but he is going to cook.
Chad Richardson ran fast down Monteagle and thought he had run 15 miles instead of 7.8 miles. Turns out Lil’ Noriega had his Garmin set to kilos instead of miles.
Sorry for the lack of updates!!
4:23pm – Festervand and Kirk struggled coming into the exchange 6 where van 2 took over. I (Joshua Holmes) just ran 5.3 up Monteagle. 1350+ foot climb within about 3 miles. Averaged 8:40 for my leg. Travis ran hard for our 8th leg. Travis, ‘Quad City DJ’ from last year, said he almost tripped at some point. James Krenis (runner #9 just took off). Van 1 is up at Sewanee eating at Shenanigans. We have having a great time. A bit cool and windy but not as cold as last year. We won’t be as fast as last year but we’re very likely to have an even better time. Brandon Piacine is in the on-deck-circle.
12:12 – Gene did great before handing it off to Scott Flowers and his climb up Raccoon Mtn. Scott Pearson then flew down Raccoon before handing off to James Festervand.
Van 2 is off to check in at exchange 6 to begin our 1st set of legs.
9:00am (CT) – And we are off. Our leadoff hitter Gene Cabellero took the baton and hightailed (or followed tail) out of the starting block as we start our 196 mile journey from Chattanooga to Nashville.
We are back for our second year at the Tennessee Ragnar Relay. Team Bumpshack Racing has morphed into the RunItFast.com Team.
I’ll be trying to live blog as much of the race as possible. It will depend upon internet connection, etc. I’ll try to throw in some photos from throughout the race as well.
Over 220 teams are taking place in the race this year.
95% of the teams have 12 runners, as we do. Each runner runs three legs varying in distance and difficulty. Each team has two vans full of six runners. The other 5% is made up of ultra teams consisting of just 6 runners total that do twice as much running.
Our team this year consists of eight guys from last year’s team (Joshua Holmes, Kirk Catron, Scott Flowers, Brandon Piacine, Travis Lampley, Gene Cabellero, Scott Miller, and Chad Richardson) and four new runners to the team (Jeremy Tackett, Scott Pearson, James Krenis, and James Festervand). Eight of us were also in the same fraternity in college.
