The 40th Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon took place on Sunday, November 27, 2011.  Here is the shiny, sparkly, appropriate, over-the-top finisher’s medal from the half marathon.

The full marathon medal was a near exact replica with a color variation.

This is a medal that the ‘King of Bling’ would be ecstatic to have hanging from his mounted bugle horn.

The inaugural Freedom Half Marathon took place on November 13, 2011 in Norfolk, Virginia.

This patriotic half-mary had an equally strong and patriotic finisher’s medal as you can see in the photo above.

The I Run For The Party – Nashville 1/2 Marathon presented by the Hard Rock Cafe took place this morning and Marathon Maniac Scott Stader was quick to email us over a photo of the beautiful finisher’s medal.

Stader said they complained pretty loudly last year for not getting a medal for the race and that they “overcompensated” this year with this beautiful piece.

The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Louis Marathon & 1/2 Marathon took place over the weekend on October 23, 2011 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Both the full and half finisher’s medals were similar except for the color of the ring circling around the medal. The full was red (Cardinals red) and the half was navy.

Overall, I think it’s a very pretty medal that focuses on St. Louis’ most historic landmark, the Gateway Arch, with a riverboat at the base of it.

Here is the unique and creepy finisher’s medal from the 2011 Cookeville Haunted Half Marathon that took place on October 22, 2011 in Cookeville, Tennessee.

A very cool medal….notice the swinging legs hanging off the knee joints?

ESPN’s First Take anchor Dana Jacobson finished her first half marathon on Sunday in Philadelphia at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia 1/2 Marathon.

Jacobson ran the 13.1 mile course in a time of 2:19:49.

Congrats to Dana and her coach Bart Yasso who helped her train via one of his patented Runner’s World training programs.

Dana tweeted afterwards, “The @RunRocknRoll folks are amazing put on a great show! Made me feel so welcome can’t wait for another.”

So it looks like Dana has the bug like the rest of us now!

Last year, the Southern Tennessee Plunge Marathon & 1/2 Marathon took place in Winchester, Tennessee in early October. Not many knew much about the event, but those that showed up were more than impressed by the organization, bling, and swag from the 1st year race.

The half marathon had 150 runners while the full marathon had 48 finishers.  Race Director Whitney Franklin is expecting to build on those numbers for the 2011 version.

This year the full marathon course is suppose to be even faster (fewer hills) and the finishing bling (medals) for both races will be even better than the inaugural version.  We’ve been given a preview of the finisher’s medals and they are VERY nice.

Franklin added, “The course is not pancake flat, but it’s not extremely challenging either. It has a few rolling hills and is very scenic, especially around Tims-Ford Lake.”

Both races start and finish on the square in downtown Winchester.

Southern Tennessee Plunge Marathon & 1/2 Website

Political hot-button Sarah Palin, the controversial star of Tea Party gatherings across the country, ‘secretly’ ran the Storm Lake (Iowa) Half Marathon (website) yesterday in a time of 1:46:10.

Palin has been traveling all across Iowa giving speeches to rouse up the Tea Party and interest in her own Presidential ambitions (she has yet to say she is running for the office).

She signed up for the half-marathon under her maiden name Sarah Heath.

Several runners eventually noticed Palin who started near the back of the pack before working her way past the walkers:

This afternoon, Palin tweeted “Thank you, Storm Lake, Iowa. You put on a great event & we loved meeting some great folks in your beautiful town today!”

The official results showed that Palin (Heath) came in 2nd place in her age division, just 1 minute and 5 seconds behind the age division winner.  The overall female winner, Lindsey Meyer, ran a 1:38:10.  Justin Helbing was the overall winner with a time of 1:18:52.

Palin is an avid runner and has completed marathons in the past.
