Run Crazy Horse Marathon Medal (2012)

This is the medal for the 2012 Run Crazy Horse Marathon held on September 30, 2012 in Hill City, South Dakota.  It is made of clay and boasts the sculpture of what the Crazy Horse Memorial will eventually look like when completed many decades from now.  It has a very charming, homemade look and the leather strap for a ribbon gives it a rugged, western feel.

There were 753 runners that participated in either the full or the half marathon.  Runners were more likely to run the half marathon, which sported roughly a 900 foot net descent, while the full marathon added a gradual climb from miles 13 – 20.

OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Medal (2012)

This is the medal for the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, the largest half marathon in the United States, held yearly in Indianapolis.  Runners are treated to a full loop on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which amounts to over 2.5 miles of the 13.1-mile race.

This year’s men’s race was won by George Towett in 1:05:08 and Lilian Mariita won the women’s race in 1:15:23.

It’s a pretty good medal.  Nothing spectacular about it, but it hits the right notes: colorful, detailed engraving of a racecar and a checkered ribbon.

Here’s a picture of the special medal given to the first 500 finishers:

Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon Medal (2012)

Here is the finisher’s medal from this year’s Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon.  The men’s half marathon was won by Linus Chumba 1:02:40 and Alemtsehay Misganaw won the women’s race in 1:13:46.

I’m a huge fan of this medal, especially the fact that they minimized the “Presented by Walmart,” which used to feature much more prominently in previous years’ medals.  It’s not quite as badass as last year’s medal, but an excellent finisher’s prize nonetheless.
